skip james

while we're bluesing it up, here's skip james, my favorite of those mississippi delta guys from the '30s that got rediscovered by the earnest white folk guys in the early '60s. i also dug son house (who wound up in rochester, new york, of all places; go fig) and bukka white (who had as much charlie patton in his voice as howlin' wolf did), but there's something about the ethereal quality to this guy's voice that just gets inside me. and then there's that guitar.
