andy bown

had a good day at the new ridglea hpb yesterday, stumbling on a few gems like john fante's ask the dust, a couple of old humble pie albs i'd been thinking about, feedtime's cooper-s, and gone to my head, a '72 album by andy bown. the multi-instrumentalist played in the herd with peter frampton pre-pie and was later in status quo (although he didn't play on "pictures of matchstick men" as his confusing-ass, eugene chadbourne-penned allmusic.com bio implies) and pink floyd's "surrogate band" on their tour supporting the wall. he also opened the 1970 isle of wight festival with the bombastic prog band judas jump and released a glam single, "new york satyricon zany," sometime in the mid-'70s (see clip below). gone to my head is, go fig, nice but not earth-shattering early '70s english pop-rock with too many backing vocalists, occasionally sounding like the zombies circa odessey and oracle. i just had to have it because i figured i was surely the only person in north texas ever to have owned this alb, even if i bought (and sold) it in new york.

The other day found a virgin copy of John Mayall Blues Breakers at hpb. Immediately transfered to wav and burned. So good.
