pink floyd
ADDENDUM: i posted these in a hurry before we went out last night, but i have some bullshit blather to add, too.
i must have heard dark side of the moon a thousand times by the end of the summer of '73, the year my best buddy and i started smoking weed. prior to that, he was a sword and sorcery geek (which he remained after becoming, um, _experienced_ whose musical tastes ran more to roger miller and peter, paul and mary. post-pot, he was more likely to be listening to neil young (after the gold rush) and steppenwolf (monster) before he discovered pink floyd and the doors. after that, particularly once we started experimenting with psychedelics, he'd stack up all of the doors albums except absolutely live on his record changer and play them over and over and over, ad infinitum, as a result of which i can't stand to listen to the doors today (altho the stoogeband has periodically kicked around learning "peace frog"). as previously mentioned, he also liked dark side of the moon real much. the one rekkid of his that i still remember with some fondness was a collection of pink floyd's early singles: "arnold layne"/"candy and a currant bun," "see emily play"/"scarecrow," "apples and oranges"/"paintbox," and "it would be so nice"/"julia dream." the first two are with syd barrett before he flipped his wig. i kinda like the other two better, particularly rick wright's songs. as later floyd albs go, i like meddle about the best. you can hear, um, echoes of "echoes" in some of boris' longer pieces, and i like the fact that the great american novel boyzzz cover "fearless."
