Get Out of That Pollutin' Machine

The North Central Texas Council of Governments is offering Metromess residents financial assistance to help them get out of polluting vehicles. Under the Aircheck Texas Drive A Clean Machine Program, motorists may qualify to receive vouchers for $3,000 toward the purchase of a newer car or truck, $3,500 toward the purchase of a hybrid vehicle, or $600 for emission-related repairs. Recipients must meet income requirements (for example, a family of four can earn no more than $63,600 a year). Vehicles must have been registered in a participating county (including Dallas, Denton, Parker, and Tarrant) for at least 12 months and passed a DPS inspection within 15 months of application, be driveable and gasoline powered, and either have failed an inspection within 30 days of application or be at least 10 years old.
