al jaffee
before creem, there was mad. the irreverent humor mag's best days were prolly back in the '50s, but even when i usedta read it in the '60s and '70s, al jaffee's fold-ins featured political commentary as astute as any straight journal, as this ny times feature reveals.

i owe 100% of my love of parody to that mag. think my 'ma bought me a subscript just about ever year for my berfday as a boy.
not as great anymore - but it still makes me chuckle. can't say i like the fact that it's in color much though - but i'll still grab a copy anytime i pass a newsstand.
and jaffee's back page antics always have me faithfully creasing the page..
