"sex, drugs, and updating your blog"

katboy sent a link to a new york times article about how blogs, myspace, youtube, etc. have changed both the marketing of music and the relationship between performer and fan. an interesting read, and a useful compendium of ideas for anyone trying to exploit technology to support a career in music.

music systems (i-tunes and such),
alot of youngsters aren't enjoying the same experience of music as we older ones did. you bought an lp and you listened to all the tracks, side 1, then side 2, in the ordained sequence---at least for the first 3-10 listens (depending on how much you dug the album).

eventually, you would let the needle drop on just specific sections of a specific side, and that's when the beauty of deep grooves scratch and scarred the most cherished of lps.

no more today. now kids can buy one FallOut Boy song and 3 reggaeton and 2 old AcDc songs to make their own haphazard compendium for their randomly selected playback enjoyment.

the notion of listening to a record, the way that the band/producer intended for you to hear their songs has gone the way of the everything-most-dear-to-us in-life.

oh, how i could go on.
