one of my best "live concert" memories is such a mash-up
of contexts that it has
become an indelible 'you shoulda
seen me' moment.
sxsw, circa 1995 (or so), me and boyfriend enjoying ourselves at a junket/promo (i used to do radio) for a teen mariachi girl sensation inside of the 2nd floor of a cowboy western outfit with the dubious name of HANG 'EM HIGH on austin's 6th street. by the 3rd or 4th free beer, we moseyed over to lean out of one of the wide-open street-facing windows at just the moment that Iggy Pop was launching into "...Be Your Dog". (Mind you, mariachi music was blaring behind us in the saloon.)
In that ultimate moment, i was so ecstatic to find myself living at the intersection of my Latina/Tejana, brown cowgirl (we used to live on a ranch, my dad sheared sheep/branded cattle), punk rock, beer-swillin', irony-laden lives.
What time, and where? Goodwin is playing at 8pm, but if it is significantly before or after that I would be all about going and listening from the street. No SXSW badgeholder, I.
TurboNegro will be at sxsw this year too. They have already said in so many words not to go, you cant get in.
