john coltrane woulda been 79 today if he hadn't checked out too early in '67. tonight i'm gonna go home and think about trane and his journey while i listen to a love supreme.

peace to trane. i was playing "the inch worm" just the other day. nicole and i were just rapping about him as we drove home from our saturday morning breakfast chow and about the strong connection between him and our town. i know he wrote a lot of music while living here, and i used to go by his cousin mary's pad when i'd take the 61 bus downtown. it's a ramshackle old pad that sits right up a hill from a massive stretch of dumps and train yards, and it's got trane's name spraypainted across the front wooden fence in giant neon letters. pretty righteous.
